Congratulations to people from Boston: Pop Recap #4

Happy Sunday! It’s officially summer and that makes me very happy :) Let’s catch up with the biggest news stories from this week….

  • The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks to become this year’s NBA champions. The win marked the team’s 18th time winning the championship. 

  • Scooter Braun has announced his retirement from music management. During his 23 year career, Braun managed a variety of pop superstars including Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.

  • Kendrick Lamar performed his Drake diss-track “Not Like Us” five times back to back at his “Pop Out” Juneteenth concert in Los Angeles. Dr. Dre, Schoolboy Q, Tyler, the Creator, Ty Dolla $ign, Steve Lacy and Roddy Ricch were among many special appearances at the concert throughout the night. 

  • Justin Timberlake was arrested for a DWI in New York. It did not, however, ruin the tour. Timberlake addressed the incident on stage in Chicago.

  • Universal Studios Orlando has unveiled its plans for Dark Universe, one of the many new worlds set to open in 2025 in Epic Universe park. 

  • Travis Kelce made a surprise appearance onstage with Taylor Swift during her Eras Tour stop in London. Check out his performance for “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart!”

Now, let’s get into some more pop culture headlines from this week!!!!

  • Aaron Tveit and Joanna ‘JoJo’ Levesque will return to Moulin Rouge! Broadway on July 23, just in time for the show’s five year anniversary. 

  • Andrew Rannells has revealed he is no longer involved with the upcoming Tammy Faye musical on Broadway.

  • Manhattan Theatre Club’s run of Eureka Day taking place at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre this November has announced its cast. Amber Gray, Thomas Middleditch, Zoë Chao, Jessica Hecht and Bill Irwin are set to star.

  • The new Avett Brothers musical, Swept Away, has announced a Broadway run. Performances are set to begin on October 29 at the Longacre Theatre. 

  • The Heart of Rock and Roll,a Huey Lewis jukebox musical, closed on Broadway June 23, after 24 previews and 72 performances.

  • Sabrina Carpenter has announced her Short n’ Sweet Tour, set to kick off in Columbus, OH on September 23. 

  • The Global Citizen Festival lineup has been revealed. Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll and Rauw Alejandro will take the stage in Central Park on September 28. 

  • Tyler, the Creator has canceled headlining performances at Lollapalooza and Outside Lands. Megan Thee Stallion will replace his set at Lollapalooza, while Sabrina Carpenter will take his Outside Lands slot. 

  • Katy Perry has announced her new single “Woman’s World” will be released on July 11. 

  • Zach Bryan has announced his album “Great American Bar Scene” will be released on July 4. Fans will be able to hear sneak previews of the project at a select 23 bars across the country. 

  • Suki Waterhouse has announced her second album “Memoir of a Sparklemuffin” will be released on September 13. 

  • Coldplay have announced their 10th studio album “Moon Music” will be released on October 4. 

  • Khalid has teased that his third studio album is “coming soon.”

  • In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Sabrina Carpenter talks about her summer hit success and reveals Jack Antonoff produced about half of her upcoming “Short n’ Sweet” album.
