Everyone is in "Knives Out 3": Pop Recap #1

Happy Sunday and welcome to the VERY FIRST EDITION of Pop Recap!!! This week was exciting and filled with a lot of interesting new announcements. To kick things off, let’s start with a quick look at what’s trending online…

  • PinkPantheress has sparked an internet debate after stating that a song “doesn’t need to be longer than two minutes and 30 seconds,” and that bridges and long outros are not needed. Other musicians have now chimed in, including Dionne Warwick, who wrote “Artists are allowed to create their art in any way they choose. However, I do believe a bridge is important.”

  • In an interview with the Zach Sang Show, Dylan Minnette says he stepped back from acting after the success of “13 Reasons Why” because it “started to feel like a bit of a job.” Minnette, who has since found success with his band Wallows, says he likes to follow “what feels natural and inspiring at the time.”

  • Nepo baby discourse is back. Between North West’s controversial performance in a 30th Anniversary concert of The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl and Ben Platt kicking off a two-week residency at the Palace Theater, the internet is heating up. Platt recently addressed his feelings about being a nepo baby in an interview with Elle, stating “I absolutely acknowledge the privilege, and the access, and the leg up that I have by being a nepo baby and have really tried throughout my whole career to do good on that opportunity by working hard to meet the opportunity and make the most of it, and just to lead by example and treat people with respect and be somebody that people want to work with because of me, not because of who my pop is.”

  • Disney Parks has shared a full ride POV of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, set to open at Walt Disney World on June 28.

  • Also…the Four Seasons Orlando baby finally made it to the Four Seasons Orlando.

  • Jennifer Lopez has cancelled her 2024 summer tour. The “This is Me…Live” tour was set to kick off in Orlando, FL on June 26.

  • Lollapalooza announced its 2024 Aftershows lineup. Chappell Roan, Tate McRae, Tyla, Faye Webster and many more are set to play small capacity venues across Chicago during the festival weekend.

  • Britney Spears interviewed Tate McRae for GEN V magazine.

  • New albums this week: Maya Hawke’s Chaos Angel, Shaboozey’s Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, Willie Nelson’s The Border, Ben Platt’s Honeymind, Leigh-Anne’s No Hard Feelings, ATEEZ’ Golden Hour: Part 1

  • New singles this week: Normani’s “Candy Paint,” Kehlani’s “Next 2 U,” Rita Ora’s “Ask & You Shall Receive,” Roddy Ricch’s “Survivor’s Remorse,” Lawrence’s “Family Business”

  • What’s coming next (6/7): Charli XCX’s Brat, Kaytranada’s Timeless, Tems’ Born in the Wild, Meghan Trainor’s Timeless
