💗 Pick of the Week

The White Lotus, Season 3

After what feels like an eternity, The White Lotus is finally back for Season 3. I have been hooked on this show ever since it first premiered in 2021. Each season takes viewers to a different White Lotus resort property and puts a spotlight on the various characters who vacation there. But there’s a twist…someone always ends up dying. It’s a reveal that is shared in the first scene of each season, but you never know exactly who it is until the very end. What I love about the show, however, is that it isn’t a whodunit and more of a character exploration where circumstances coincidentally lead to a death. The show isn’t designed for constantly theorizing about who will die, it’s simply not the core of the story. If you focus only on the mystery element, you’ll probably miss the overarching thematic elements that writer/director Mike White includes throughout the show, whether its examining class divides and racial privilege or exploring lust and greed. With that being said, Season 1’s death was gut wrenching, while Season 2’s ending was absolutely sensational. I’m curious to see where we are headed this time.

Season 3 takes viewers to Thailand, and while the series is an anthology with new casts each time, there’s once again a familiar face. Belinda from Season 1, played by Natasha Rothwell, is back and I can’t wait to see how her story plays out. Rounding out the cast are Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, Sam Nivola, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Leslie Bibb, Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins, Nicholas Duvernay and Lalisa Manobal.

I’m really curious what the overarching theme of this season will be, because the first episode has already implied that things are gonna get weird. Nevertheless, I can’t help but recommend this show because it’s just too good.

New episodes of The White Lotus air Sundays on HBO.
